Priyo Baba Overviews

Prio Baba Campaign has been organized by Centerr for Men and Masculinities Studies (CMMS) and funded by Promundo US as part of an action research initiative titled MenCare Bangladesh: Engaging Fathers for Child and Family Well-Being and Gender Transformation -- conducting awareness campaigns in five districts of Bangladesh. The campaign involves mostly fathers to sensitize them about family planning, rights of the wife and children and bad impacts of domestic violence.

This program is aimed at:

  • Prevent the use of violence against children at the household level
  • Promote more equitable household decision-making and healthy relationships between parents and children
  • Increasing men’s participation in and time devoted to domestic and childcare chores in order to promote closer and non-violent relationships between fathers and children, and reduce family stress
  • Increase men’s equitable participation in maternal (including newborn and child), sexual and reproductive health, specifically to become more supportive partners in all three areas, as an entry point to promote long-term, non-violent participation of fathers in the lives of their children

Keeping these objectives ahead, Prio baba campaignhas conducted awareness campaigns in the rural areas of Pabna, Rangpur, Cox’s Bazar, Sirajganj and Natoredistricts of Bangladesh for the last two years. The campaign has achieved revolutionary success in creating a culture of positive fatherhood in the research areas. The key activities of the campaigns are:

  • Engaging fathers at the community level
  • Creating role model fathers who embody “positive masculinities” or gender equitable attitudes and non-violent behaviors within the community and encouraging the community to follow those fathers
  • Engaging families at the individual and relationship level
  • Engaging community service providers at the health system level
